
Candidates/Vehicle Type | Defensive Driving for Light Vehicles (Levels 1-5): for drivers who hold a category B license and who drive the following vehicles: passenger cars, vans, mini-buses, pick-up trucks. Defensive Driving for Heavy Vehicles (Levels 1-5): for drivers who hold a category C, D, CE license and who drive the following vehicles: trucks, tractor-trailers, fuel tankers, cement tankers and buses. |
Program Description | Our Defensive Driving training programs employ international standards and best practices regarding Road Safety Education and Driver Trainer Techniques with the objective of teaching drivers how to avoid becoming involved in an accident. |
Objective | Candidates will enhance their ability to avoid dangerous situations by developing their hazard identification skills and improving their avoidance techniques. Further, they will gain road safety awareness and the ability to identify and correct potentially dangerous driving behaviors, all with the objective of avoiding road related accidents. |
Training Methodology | Candidates participate in the theory session in small groups and then in a practical session which takes place in real traffic conditions, in the candidate’s vehicle and with a trainer to candidate ratio of 1:1. Following the completion of the practical session, the trainer completes an assessment of the candidate’s performance. |
Indicative Training Content | Timely hazard identification and safe obstacle avoidance; Safe vehicle handling in everyday and difficult conditions; What is and how to maintain a safety distance; All about vehicle speed; Driver reaction time; All about stopping distances; What is a Planned System of Driving and why is it important. Detailed program content is included upon request for an offer. |
Driver Assessment | The candidate is assessed on 51 points, before and after the trainer has offered his input for improvement. The final grade resulting from the assessment determines the risk category that the candidate belongs to: Low, Medium, High. |
Benefits | For the Candidate: The candidate learns to apply the basic principles of Defensive Driving presented in the theory session and covered in the practical session. Further, the candidate understands his/her weak points and how to improve upon them in order to drive safely. Prerequisites | – Valid driver’s license – Driving experience of at least one year – Each level of training requires that the previous level be completed – The practical is executed with the candidate’s vehicle |
